Planet Grants Strategy Team

Global Grant Manager 'The Boss': Loretta Skiff

I started Planet Grants to make meaningful change happen every day, whether it happens one funded idea, one community program, or one well-written proposal at a time. My work is driven by a simple belief: if we can move the needle even a little for people, communities, or the planet, it’s worth doing thoughtfully, responsibly, and with care.

By day, I’m usually hunched over my laptop, turning big ideas into fundable realities and helping organizations secure the resources they need to do good work sustainably. If I ever had to niche into a service industry, it would be Coastal Conservation. Whenever I can sneak away, you’ll find me recharging outdoors by hiking Pacific Northwest trails, paddleboarding with my corgi Marshall and husband in tow, hunting down farm-to-table foodie spots, or being an unapologetic beach bum near any body of water that will have me.

I bring that same balance into my work: serious about impact, thoughtful about people, and grounded in the belief that work should support a life you actually enjoy.

Because changing the world—whether in big wins or small doses—works best when you’re fully human while doing it.

Holding certifications as a Certified Associate in Project Management and Six Sigma Black Belt, she brings years of cross-functional leadership and portfolio-level oversight across healthcare, insurance, IT, government-adjacent projects, and nonprofit initiatives.

Bridget excels at running multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure timelines stay on track and service delivery remains best-in-class. Her background includes managing IT infrastructure upgrades, data management initiatives, grant reporting, and budget oversight at the state level, and implementing systems that bring clarity, prioritization, and measurable results to high-pressure environments.

Environmental Scientist: Travis Turgeon

Travis is an environmental scientist who has spent the past decade working across the global South in roles spanning field research, conservation projects, and environmental policy. Much of his work has happened in coastal regions where conservation challenges show up in real time — illegal fishing pressures, reef loss, community-driven restoration, and fragile local economies.

He’s an SSI Divemaster with more than 800 logged hours underwater, giving him firsthand exposure to how marine systems actually function outside of reports and theory. He has lived and worked in multiple countries, speaks Spanish and conversational Thai, and is comfortable navigating cross-cultural field environments.

Through his company, Boundless Blue, he applies that field grounding to funding strategy and scientific communication for ocean NGOs worldwide. His work is informed by direct experience in the water and on the ground, which keeps his approach practical, clear, and aligned with the realities that conservation teams face every day.

Nonprofit Development Specialist: Heather Callahan

Heather Callahan serves as Client Experience Manager and Grant Research Specialist, bringing a rare combination of deep sector expertise and genuine care for the organizations we serve. As a Certified Grant Writer and Certified Funding Strategist, she identifies competitive funding opportunities and crafts compelling proposals for clients across healthcare, education technology, community development, and infrastructure sectors.

Heather's career spans over three decades in education, healthcare operations, and nonprofit development, including founding Sufficient Grace Grants and Consulting. This diverse background means she understands both the technical requirements funders demand and the real-world operational challenges our clients face daily. Her Christian faith is at the core of who she is and how she serves others.

What sets Heather apart is her ability to translate complex organizational visions into clear, persuasive funding narratives that resonate with reviewers. Her background includes work as a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, managing clinical operations in emergency medicine and specialty practices, and, later, bringing her master’s-level training into the classroom. She taught at the elementary school level and has developed curriculum for diverse student populations. These experiences give her authentic insight into healthcare delivery systems, educational technology implementation, and the capacity-building needs of mission-driven organizations.

Creative Writer and Storyteller: Delta Waters

Delta Waters, founder of Heart Currency Grant Services, serves as a Grant Storyteller, bringing 25 years of nonprofit healthcare experience and a deep belief that grant writing is advocacy—giving voice to the quiet, powerful work organizations do every day. As a retired registered nurse who spent her career working almost exclusively with nonprofit hospices, she understands the intersection of compassionate care and financial sustainability from the inside out.

Delta doesn't just write grants; she listens deeply, learns client missions at their core, and crafts proposals that reflect both the heart of the work and the strategic clarity funders demand. Her approach blends the precision of clinical training with the storytelling skills honed as a professional healthcare content writer, ensuring every proposal is grounded in accurate research while compelling funders to invest in transformative impact.

What makes Delta invaluable to our team is her ability to find the holes that need filling and to translate passion into funded possibilities. Her nursing background means she's seasoned in what she calls "extreme sports"—time management under pressure, anticipating needs before they become crises, and creative problem-solving that gets projects across the finish line. Whether she's researching complex healthcare initiatives, articulating a nonprofit's vision with clarity and conviction, or advocating for organizations serving vulnerable populations, Delta brings both the stamina and the heart to see it through.

When she's not writing grants, you'll find her exploring New Mexico full-time in her RV with her wire-haired border terrier, JoJo, always ready to connect with mission-driven organizations that need a champion in their corner.

African Development Specialist: Bishop Chukwu

Bishop Chukwu serves as an International Development Specialist and Grant Research Lead, bringing over five years of experience advancing public health equity and sustainable development across Nigeria and global communities. As Co-Founder of Jethro Hope Support Initiative, with Loretta Skiff, he leads grassroots development efforts. Most recent efforts included developing a pilot food bank project in Ado Kasa, Nigeria, to address community food insecurity. JHSI also works to improve health outcomes in underserved populations across Nigeria.

With a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Public Health, a Mini MBA in International Organisational Management, and published research on the antimicrobial properties of traditional African medicinal plants, Bishop combines scientific rigor with on-the-ground implementation expertise. His work as a Public Health Coordinator resulted in a 95% reduction in foodborne illness reports at community health centers through the development of targeted WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education modules—proof that well-designed interventions can transform community health when research meets real-world application.

Bishop brings unmatched passion for humanity to every grant he researches and writes, viewing funding as a pathway to solving critical challenges facing vulnerable populations. He specializes in identifying competitive opportunities for international foundations and development agencies that support global environmental sustainability, public health infrastructure, and grassroots community empowerment.

Whether he's crafting comprehensive grant applications, conducting community health assessments on non-communicable diseases, or building strategic partnerships through targeted networking, Bishop operates from a core belief that every individual's welfare is intrinsically linked to the welfare of all. His dedication to closing health equity gaps and creating sustainable solutions makes him an invaluable asset to organizations working at the intersection of public health, food security, and international development.

Community, Education, and STEM: Kathy Irick

Kathy brings over 30 years of educational experience and a passion for connecting mission-driven organizations with the funding they need to thrive. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Miami University, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, and recently earned grant writing and funding strategist certifications through LearnGrantWriting.org.

Throughout her teaching career, Kathy was recognized as an innovative educator who championed hands-on, project-based learning that engaged students through movement, collaboration, and experiential education. Her leadership extended beyond the classroom as she spearheaded the development of two outdoor learning spaces on her school campus: an 8-acre forested "Land Lab" restored with native plants and a butterfly habitat designed for ecological study. These initiatives reflected her commitment to nature-based education and environmental stewardship, values that continue to inform her grant writing practice today.

She began writing grants early in her career, securing over $25,000 in funding for classroom resources, outdoor education projects, and student publishing initiatives that sent books to underserved schools in Africa.

Since retiring, Kathy has focused on grant writing and recently secured a $5,000 grant for an elementary STEM program and helped a local museum win $10,000 in funding. She specializes in educational programming, environmental initiatives, and community development projects. Her approach combines careful research, clear storytelling, and a genuine understanding of what makes organizations and their missions compelling to funders.

Pat's 24-year real estate career sharpened her skills in managing complex, multi-party transactions, coordinating title attorneys, lenders, inspectors, appraisers, and clients with precision, earning her repeat business and industry respect for over two decades.
